Well, the daffodils and tulips are out, birds are singing, lambs are appearing in the fields and farmland around my house and the nights are much lighter…that can only mean one thing…Spring has well and truly arrived, yay!
I’ve been a bit quiet on my blog again lately….time, as usual, seems to flying by so quickly and it’s hard sometimes to keep up with everything. So here’s a little “hello” and update to fill you in on what’s been going on in my little studio…
If you’re a regular visitor to my site, you may have noticed a couple of changes since my last blog…I’m currently in the process of a giving the site a bit of a refresh, which includes updating and changing a few things, such as my logo design, my background pattern and some product information and images. I’m also working on a few new features (with the help of the very talented 30two Design of course – cheers Dunc!), which I hope to be able to share with you soon.
Since I signed up to the Make It In Design course in February last year, (wow, that’s gone quick!), I’ve completed Modules 1, 2 & 3 and have learnt so much about Surface Pattern Design and what I want to do with my business. I haven’t managed to digest everything from the course yet – it’s pretty jam-packed with amazing info! But it has got me thinking about my business and where I want to take it going forward. I’m also looking more at my brand and styling, and although it’s far from finished, I feel like I am making progress. Starting with my new logo…as the majority of my work is hand drawn or hand painted, I felt that it was important for my company logo to reflect this. By using my hand drawn signature, I feel it’s more personal and more “me”, like I’m signing every piece of work I create by hand as I design it. The addition of the small little hearts above the “I”s in my name reflect that everything I create is designed with love. There’ll hopefully be a few more changes to come in the months ahead so be sure to stay tuned.
Last summer I signed up to a free Summer School course created by the wonderful Make It In Design team, (you can read my previous posts about each design brief here…Brief 1, Brief 2, Brief 3). After quite a few months of hard work from the MIID team, you can now view the beautiful Lookbook that they have created using some of the amazing designs submitted by lots of super talented artists and designers that took part. I was thrilled to have my designs selected and included and look forward to Summer School starting again later this year!
This week I’ve signed up to Instagram and although I didn’t really know what I was doing at first, I think I’m now getting into the swing of things and how it all works and I have to say, I love it! Everyone is so friendly and encouraging on there and I’ve even been invited to join in on a daily design project (thank you Rebecca!). #artdaily2015 is a daily creative project where a group of artists and designers commit to producing one small, quick piece of artwork/design a day and share it over on Instagram using #artdaily2015. You can find and follow them all on Instagram or follow the Pinterest board to see what wonderful creations appear! Be sure to check out the artists blogs too as some of them will be sharing their work there too. Whilst I can’t guarantee that I’ll submit something every single day, I will do my best to post something as often as I can! I’ll be sharing my images on here but you can also find and follow me on Instagram to see some more of my little creative world in photos!
Finally, did you know that it’s National Gardening Week? I thought I’d share this little design from a new collection I’ve been working on called “Garden Life” with you. Can you spot the little helpers amongst the gardening tools? Look closely!
So if you have some time this week, why not get out in the sunshine, get your green fingers on and get your garden’s looking lovely!
Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!
