Summer school has started…

Well it’s been a pretty hectic week, pushing my time management and organisational skills to the max! But I’ve had a lot of fun doing what I love and I’m ending the week on a high.

This week saw my business enter its second year and to celebrate, there’s a sale on across all greetings cards, notecards and art prints (excluding wedding stationery and bespoke gifts). Simply enter celebrate20 at the checkout to receive 20% off! But hurry, there’s only a few more days left…

Happy Birthday

I’ve also been working on a few more bespoke gifts for some lovely customers and I love the variation and challenge that comes with each one. The cute animal print I created a little while ago seems to have created quite a stir and is proving to be a very popular design! I’ve already done a few re-colours for some new baby gifts, and below is one of them…

Since completing module one of the fabulous Make it in Design course back in April, I’ve been very busy behind the scenes, designing like a mad woman when time allows! This week has seen me finalise some brand new designs for some greeting card collections as a direct result of some of the work I created in response to the course back in April. These will be available to buy from my online shop very soon so stay tuned! But for now, here’s a little sneak peek…

Whilst module two of the Make it in Design course has been put back to October, (due to baby Taylor arriving very soon – good luck Rachael!), the lovely team over at MIID have created a free Summer School to keep us all going creatively and to help inspire us. The school features three different tracks; beginner, intermediate and advanced, with each track having three creative design briefs spread out over six weeks. You can then submit your work to be displayed in an online gallery. You can view all the entries for the first briefs on all three tracks here: http://makeitindesign.com/summer-school-galleries/

I signed up for two of the tracks and when the first briefs were released last week, I wondered when I’d ever get the time to work on anything! But somehow this week, I’ve managed to put pen to paper and get designing in response to the briefs. It’s been quite challenging but I’ve enjoyed the process and it’s great to have the support of the facebook groups that have been set up, to ask for opinions and advice when you have those doubtful days about what you’re doing. Below are the designs I created for the two Impulse Trends; Retro Geometrics and Water Rays. I had a lot of fun mocking up my prints onto different products and hope that one day these might become real products available to buy…watch this space!

Am really enjoying this summer school and all the challenges it brings. I can’t wait for the next lot of design briefs to be released and just hope that I can continue to manage my time to work on them!

Well, that’s all for this week but here’s a little thought for my “feel good Friday”…

So very true!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
